From Molly's Music to The Inside Voice

Hi! I’m Molly, the founder of the Inside Voice. I wanted to use this first blog entry to tell you a little about who we are, where we came from, and where we’re going. As of now, July, 2022, the vast majority of my blog posts about singing, instruments, performance, and much more are still housed on the Molly’s Music Blog, so feel free to visit us there. Over time, we’ll be using the TIV blog to post more current versions of the Molly’s Music posts, as well as give you completely new ones.

What’s Molly’s Music

Girls Who Took Voice and Guitar Lessons at Molly's Music
I met Travis at a teacher training program at YogaWorks. Even though neither of us teach it anymore, I use the practice in voice pedagogy because of all the bodywork that needs to happen when you sing. We live in Orange, California with our 9-year-old son, Dean, who’s signed up for our Pop Star Camp this year.

Travis has his PhD in the social sciences from Claremont Graduate University. After teaching college for several years, he left to run our business full time. He’s also a writer and a second degree black belt.

I’ve spent my whole life doing music in one form or another, whether it be musical theater, pop singing and songwriting, classical piano, or music teaching. In 2006, I graduated from Columbia University, and since then have been teaching, running our business, and completing vocal certifications. I’m an Estill Master Trainer and have completed the 3 levels of Somatic Voicework™ and the New York Pedagogy Workshop taught by Brian Gill and vocal scientist Johan Sundberg.

Travis and I, along with our partners, Chris and Tiffanie, who’ve worked on videography, design, and countless other indispensable aspects of the business, began working on TIV before the pandemic. We wanted to expand access to voice lessons. We want to make them more accessible and affordable, to give people more options.. That’s when we created the pocket lesson and began filming instructional videos and recording vocal exercises. With the launch of our new online portal, music lessons are easier than ever, and we’ve even expanded our online offerings to guitar, ukulele, and piano lessons. We truly believe that music, singing in particular, is a vital part of health and wellness and that even people who have no aspirations to ever perform should learn to sing.

Make no mistake, our original boutique services are still alive and well, and we’re still Orange County’s premier vocal school. Just look for our Concierge service to sign up for in-person music lessons with one of our amazing teachers.

Welcome to the Inside Voice! We’re so excited you’re here.
